  • feel itching eye after went to a crowded place, eye become redness and have discharge

    Hello doctor. I went to a crowded place last week. When I got home my eye started to itch. Now it is red, pinkish, itchy, and with heavy discharge. What over the counter eye drops can you suggest? We have an incoming activity so hopefully an effective eye drop can be used. Thank you. Looking forward for your answer.

     Hi Zhea May Aurelio,

    Red and itchy eyes could mean many things such as

    -conjunctivitis from irritation (enviromental/dust/chemical ingredients)

    -conjunctivitis from viral or bacterial infection

    -allergic conjunctivitis (means the cause is within yourself)

    -corneal ulcer which might come with trouble in seeing things and severe pain

    If you have heavy discharge as you said, it might be bacterial infection that need antibiotic prescibed by doctor. I suggest you go see one near where you live as soon as possible.

    For now, you can rinse your eyes with clean water and try not to scratch them so much. If it is really itchy, antihistamines (eye drop or oral) could be useful.
